Newmarket — The Ontario Liberal Party is pleased to announce that Chris Ballard is seeking re-election as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Newmarket-Aurora in the 2018 Ontario election.
Ballard was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2014 after serving a term as a municipal councillor in the Town of Aurora. Just two years after his election as MPP, Ballard was also appointed Minister of Housing and Minister Responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy.
“Serving this community has been a great honour,” Ballard said. “Every day, I get to work on behalf of my constituents to build a stronger community where all of us can put down roots, raise a family, and spend each day in a place we truly love.”
Ballard has worked hard for families in the riding, delivering $5.7 million in additional funding to Southlake Regional Hospital this year alone. His advocacy has helped break ground at Mulock Drive on a new stop on the Barrie GO Transit Line that will deliver direct access to and from Union Station. And he successfully passed legislation to democratically elect the York Region Chair, making sure local voices are finally heard.
“Knowing Chris is to see just how deeply he cares for the people of our community,” said Jackie Playter, a local business owner and a Director on the Management Team of the Newmarket BIA. “You hear it when you talk to him at the farmers market, the seniors centre, or at the local businesses he continues to champion. He is always there, ready to listen and ready to take action to make life easier for the people of Newmarket.”
Playter was just one of many members of the community who were out in full force at the Newmarket Community Centre to show their support for the candidate.
“I got to know Chris as a hard-worker when we served on Town Council together and he has brought every ounce of that same dedication to his work as our MPP,” said John Gallo, a former municipal councillor in the Town of Aurora. “You only have to look across the kitchen table at your own family to see the impact of his work - pharmacare and free tuition for your kids, and better transit and fairer housing for us all. That’s the Aurora I believe in and it’s why I support Chris.”
In the lead up to the campaign, Ballard will continue to champion the policies of the Liberal government that continue to make Newmarket-Aurora and the province better places to live.
Ballard was born and raised in rural King City. He and his wife Audrey raised their three children in Aurora, home to a public affairs company he owned for over 25 years.
